# St Mary, North Somercotes

St Mary’s is a Grade I parish church at Church End, North Somercotes, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England dates the church to the late twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, with seventeenth-century work and a heavy nineteenth-century restoration. The fabric is coursed limestone rubble and ashlar, thickly pebble-dashed and rendered, with some oyster shells embedded, and lead and slate roofs. The plan is a west tower, nave with north and south aisles, south porch and chancel. The twelfth-century tower was refurbished in the fourteenth century and heavily restored in the nineteenth, with paired lancet bell openings and a broad parapet.

The interior has five-bay north and south arcades: two late twelfth-century western bays with round piers, and three fourteenth-century eastern bays with octagonal piers. The early thirteenth-century chancel arch was restored in the nineteenth century. The listing records a fifteenth-century font, heavily restored in 1844, with an octagonal bowl of cusped shield panels and a figure of Christ climbing from the tomb. The parish notes that the nave and south aisle roofs were destroyed in 1685; present roofs date from 1902 and 1984.
