# St Mary Magdalene, Batcombe

St Mary Magdalene (listed as the Parish Church of St Mary) is a Grade I church at Batcombe, Dorset, in the Diocese of Salisbury.

## Overview

Historic England records a fifteenth-century nave and west tower, with the chancel rebuilt and a north porch added in 1864. The walls are rubble-stone and flint with freestone dressings, under clay-tile roofs. The three-stage west tower has diagonal buttresses, an embattled parapet with pinnacles and gargoyles, and the principal west doorway. Nave windows are fifteenth-century, with three cinquefoiled ogee lights and vertical tracery. The tower arch is moulded; the nave roof has collar-beam traces forming four-centred arches. A late-fifteenth-century screen stands under the chancel arch. The font is a roughly circular stone bowl with cable ornament. The church stands apart at the head of the Wriggle Valley; several churchyard monuments are separately listed Grade II. The listing cites RCHM Dorset I.
