# St Mary, Ludborough

St Mary’s is a Grade I parish church on Main Street (Station Road), Ludborough, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England lists a parish church of the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, restored in 1858 by James Fowler of Louth. The fabric is squared ironstone and chalk rubble with limestone dressings and slate and tiled roofs. The tall fifteenth-century three-stage ironstone west tower has clasping buttresses, string courses and an embattled parapet, a three-light west window and paired trefoil-headed belfry lights. The nave is chalk with a tiled roof; the nineteenth-century south aisle is chalk with a slate roof. The chancel retains a thirteenth-century north doorway with moulded imposts and ammonite stops, lancets, and an east wall of two lancets with a nineteenth-century quatrefoil above.

Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer records Early English chancel, sedilia, piscina, arcades and clerestory, with later Decorated and Perpendicular work. Archaeological watching briefs in 1999–2000 found a Victorian chequerboard tile floor, earlier pew platforms and foundations of former chalk nave walls from before the medieval enlargement.
