Overview
Historic England dates the church to 1856-57 by S. S. Teulon (the list text prints Tenlon, a recognised mis-spelling of the architect). It is a small Early English church of snecked sandstone rubble with a Welsh slate roof: an aisled nave with bellcote and south porch, and a lower chancel with a short south aisle. The north aisle is lengthened to form the Vane chapel, an elaborate small building with an undercroft, containing a monument to Sir Henry Vane Tempest of 1813 by Westmacott.
The Victoria County History records that Frances Anne, Marchioness of Londonderry, rebuilt the church entirely in 1856-57 on the site of a very ancient church. The Vane mausoleum, also built by the Marchioness, opens to the chancel by a three-bay arcade and has a vaulted stone roof in thirteenth-century style. A carved oak chancel screen was erected in 1904 by the Marquess of Londonderry. The reredos of 1887 commemorates the Revd John Wilson, rector 1869-85. The listing NGR is NZ 38274 16487.
