# St Mary, Limington

St Mary’s is a Grade I parish church on Church Street, Limington, Somerset, in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

## Overview

Historic England records a late-fourteenth-century church with earlier fragments: a Norman north door and footings to nave and tower, a thirteenth-century south porch, a fine north chapel of 1328, and a fifteenth-century chancel restored in the nineteenth century. The fabric is local stone, mostly cut, squared and random coursed, with Ham stone dressings and plain clay-tile roofs with coped gables. The three-stage west tower has a late-fifteenth-century west window, pierced stone baffles, and gargoyles at the parapet. The south porch has stone seats and a thirteenth-century pointed doorway. Interior fittings include a seventeenth-century pulpit and altar table, a sixteenth-century octagonal font, and medieval effigies, among them Sir Richard Gyvernay (d. 1329), who built the chantry chapel. Thomas Wolsey was vicar of Limington before his rise under Henry VIII.
