# St Mary, Hogsthorpe

St Mary’s is a Grade I parish church on the south side of High Street, Hogsthorpe, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln, a medieval marshland church of limestone, chalk, greenstone and later brick.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the twelfth century, with work of the early thirteenth and late fifteenth centuries, a south aisle and porch partly rebuilt in 1607, and nineteenth-century restoration. The three-stage twelfth-century west tower is of limestone with greenstone banding and chalk and brick patching; a fifteenth-century belfry stage has triple traceried lights. Early thirteenth-century fabric includes tall west lancets and blocked openings. The north aisle mixes brick and greenstone under a lead roof; the south aisle and porch began as fifteenth-century greenstone and ashlar and were partly rebuilt in brick in 1607, with a parapet dated 1607. The limestone ashlar chancel was rebuilt in 1870 in a fourteenth-century reticulated style, after restorations recorded in 1853 and 1910. Roofs are slate and lead.

Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer notes Early English work in the west tower and a five-bay arcade, with Decorated and Perpendicular features, and an inscription associated with the Guild of St Mary. The church stands on High Street in the civil parish of Hogsthorpe, East Lindsey.
