# St Mary, East Barkwith

St Mary’s is the Grade II* parish church of East Barkwith, Lincolnshire, a medieval church with a mid-fifteenth-century west tower, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England dates the parish church to the early twelfth, mid thirteenth and mid fifteenth centuries, with seventeenth-century work, a chancel of 1846 by J. B. Atkinson, and a north aisle of 1868–69 by R. J. Withers. Materials are coursed ironstone, limestone and greenstone rubble with limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. The plan is west tower, nave with north and south aisles, south porch, chancel with north vestry and south organ chamber.

The three-stage west tower is mid-fifteenth-century ironstone with a Perpendicular west window, seventeenth-century paired bell openings, battlements and pinnacles. Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer notes a Perpendicular porch and doorway, an octagonal font, and fourteenth-century stained glass. The church stands on Church Lane (D1 address: Torrington Lane), in the Diocese of Lincoln.
