St Mary, Car Colston

St Mary’s is a Grade I parish church in Car Colston, Nottinghamshire, in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham and the joint parish of Car Colston and Screveton.

Overview

The church dates from the thirteenth century and is listed Grade I (list entry 1045667). Rushcliffe’s conservation-area appraisal describes a thirteenth- to sixteenth-century church in Early English style, with a fourteenth-century west tower, crenellated parapet and spire, mid-fourteenth-century nave arcades, a tall mid-fourteenth-century chancel, and chancel windows with reticulated tracery. The tower was restored in 1911. The church stands between the village’s Large Common and Little Common and is a landmark in the conservation area. A group of three headstones one metre south of the south aisle is separately listed Grade II.
