# St Mary, Brighstone

St Mary is the Grade I parish church of Brighstone on the Isle of Wight, a medieval church with a twelfth-century north arcade and a lead spire of 1720, in the Diocese of Portsmouth.

## Overview

Historic England lists the church (1292128, 18 January 1967). The north arcade is twelfth-century (about 1190), with circular columns and square abaci. The south arcade and lower stages of the west tower are fourteenth-century; the upper stage and angle buttresses are fifteenth-century. The south aisle, south porch and chancel are early sixteenth-century. The lead spire dates from 1720; the north aisle was rebuilt in 1852 under the Revd Edward McAll. The church is of Isle of Wight stone rubble with a tiled roof. The parish is one of the West Wight churches published at fivechurches.org.uk.
