# St Mary, Bolton on Swale

St Mary’s, Bolton-on-Swale, is a Grade II* parish church of the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries, restored by George Fowler Jones in 1857, in the Diocese of Leeds.

## Overview

Historic England records rubble with ashlar dressings and a Westmorland slate roof: a late-sixteenth-century west tower, three-bay nave with aisles, and a fifteenth-century chancel. An early-fourteenth-century south arcade survives; Jones rebuilt much of the nave and windows in 1857. Eden Nesfield remodelled the chancel in 1877. The churchyard holds the memorial to Henry Jenkins, reputed to have lived to 169. Listed Grade II* on 4 February 1969 (NHLE 1131521). The parish is Easby with Skeeby, Brompton on Swale and Bolton on Swale.
