# St Mark, Cautley

St Mark’s at Cautley, in the dale north of Sedbergh, Cumbria, is a Grade II church of 1847 by William Butterfield, in the Diocese of Carlisle.

## Overview

Historic England records a church of 1847 by William Butterfield in a simple Decorated style: nave with west bellcote, south porch, chancel and north vestry, of mixed random rubble with freestone dressings and a graduated green slate roof. The design is described as simple but boldly modelled, with a wagon roof of scissor-braced common rafters. Listed Grade II on 15 March 1983 (NHLE 1384094). The church was built to serve Cautley, a sparsely populated dale running north from Sedbergh towards Kirkby Stephen, and marked 175 years in 2022. It is in the Western Dales Mission Community in the Diocese of Carlisle.
