# St Mark, Ninebanks

St Mark's is a Grade II Church of England parish church at Ninebanks, West Allen, Northumberland, in the Diocese of Newcastle and the parish of Whitfield and Ninebanks.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of 1871 by Haswell: rubble with dressings and a blue slate roof with two purple bands and orange ridge tiles. The plan is rectangular, with a canted apse, a south porch linked to a south-west tower, and a small north vestry. The three-stage tower has paired belfry openings and a square stone spire with two bands of tegulated ornament. The interior has no structural division; arch-braced roof trusses rest on moulded corbels, and the font is in a thirteenth-century style.

A first St Mark's on the site was consecrated in 1764 and rebuilt in 1871. Windows were given by R Lee in 1880. The church stands in the North Pennines, in a valley long associated with lead mining.
