# St Margaret, Swinton

The Church of St Margaret on Church Street, Swinton, near Rotherham, is a Grade II Gothic Revival parish church in the Diocese of Sheffield, with an 1817 tower and a nave rebuilt after fire.

## Overview

Historic England records a church whose tower dates from 1817; the rest was rebuilt in 1899 by E. Isle Hubbard after a fire of 1897. The three-stage west tower is ashlar sandstone with offset angle buttresses rising as pinnacles above an embattled parapet. The six-bay aisled nave and lower two-bay chancel are of coursed squared sandstone with red tile roofs. The interior has circular piers to double-chamfered arcades and hammer-beam trusses. A date plaque under the tower records the rebuilding. Listed Grade II on 21 August 1985 (NHLE 1314575). The base of a churchyard cross and remains of the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene immediately north are separately listed.
