# St Margaret of Antioch, Bilsthorpe

St Margaret's is a Grade I parish church on Church Hill, Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries, with work of 1663 and a restoration of 1873 by T. C. Hine. The fabric is squared dressed stone and snecked stone with ashlar dressings, under plain-tile and twentieth-century slab-tile roofs. The plan comprises a west tower, aisleless nave, chancel, vestry, south transept and south porch. The two-stage west tower is fourteenth-century below, with a 1663 upper stage of paired round-headed openings and a tablet dated 1663; it has a crenellated parapet and two western obelisk pinnacles. The south porch is fifteenth-century, restored, with a fourteenth-century south doorway. The south transept of 1873 is the Savile chapel.

Interior fittings include a twelfth-century cylindrical font, a pulpit that is partly seventeenth-century oak with linenfold panels, and a marble wall tablet of 1649 to William Chappell, Bishop of Cork and Ross. The Church Heritage Record names the parish Bilsthorpe in the Archdeaconry of Newark. The Ollerton family of churches hub is the current parish website.
