# St Leonard, Stanton Fitzwarren

St Leonard’s is a Grade I Church of England parish church at Stanton Fitzwarren, near Swindon, in the Diocese of Bristol.

## Overview

Historic England lists the Church of St Leonard (NHLE 1023408, listed 26 January 1955). The listing records a Norman nave with fourteenth-century alterations, a thirteenth- or fourteenth-century chancel on the site of a Norman apse found in 1865, a seventeenth-century tower to the north, and restorations of 1865 and 1891. The fabric is rubble with a stone-tile roof. Norman north and south doorways survive. The church is listed at Grade I especially for its circular font of about 1180, carved with eight Virtues and Vices under trefoiled arches. Pevsner records the 1865 restoration by J. W. Hugall, a west bay added in 1891, and a south porch of 1898. The parish is now held with South Marston and Stratton St Margaret.
