# St Leonard, Southoe

St Leonard is a Grade I parish church on the High Street at Southoe, Cambridgeshire, in the Diocese of Ely and the Paxtons Benefice.

## Overview

Historic England records the present church on the site of a late twelfth-century building of which the medieval plan, the piers of the chancel arch and a reset south doorway survive. The nave and chancel are principally thirteenth-century. A south aisle and north chapel were added in the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century, with sixteenth-century clerestory alterations later restored in the nineteenth century.

The northwest tower is of narrow red brick in English bond with diaper work and limestone dressings, of three stages with an embattled parapet. The nave is pebblestone with limestone dressings and a brick south wall. The listing highlights a fine late twelfth-century reset south doorway of three moulded orders in a round-headed arch. Inside, the north arcade has octagonal columns; the south arcade has round columns; the thirteenth-century chancel arch sits on late twelfth-century piers with scallop and cushion capitals.
