# St Lawrence, Bardney

St Lawrence’s is a Grade I parish church on Church Lane in Bardney, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of about 1434 to the end of the fifteenth century, with late seventeenth-century work and a restoration of 1873–79. The fabric is coursed limestone rubble, limestone ashlar and red brick, with plain tiled roofs, stone-coped gables and some pantiles. The plan has a late fifteenth-century west tower, an aisled nave with north porch and a rectangular brick chancel of about 1434. The tower has richly moulded string courses, three-stage diagonal buttresses, a large west window with vertical tracery, battlements and eight ornate pinnacles.

The church replaced an earlier building on the site and stood for a time alongside Bardney Abbey, the Benedictine house founded in 697, until the abbey’s dissolution in 1538; fragments from the abbey were incorporated into the parish church. Interior fittings noted in the listing include tall late-fifteenth-century arcades with polygonal capitals and a tall chancel arch. The church is open daily from dawn to dusk.
