Overview
Gibbs’s first church opened on 24 April 1879. Fire on 2 January 1887 destroyed the body; the 190-foot tower and spire survived and were incorporated in the new church by Flockton & Gibbs, reopened on 9 September 1888. Historic England records rock-faced Ancaster stone with ashlar dressings, steep slate and lead roofs, nave with clerestory, transepts, octagonal chancel and narthex. Frank Tory carved the reredos (1888) and much of the interior sculpture. The slender spire is among the tallest in Sheffield. Listed Grade II* on 28 June 1973 (NHLE 1271043). The tower and spire are on the Heritage at Risk Register because of masonry decay.
