Overview
Coflein records the church on the north side of High Street, built in 1887–89 to designs by E. H. Lingen Barker of Hereford. The Church in Wales heritage record states that earlier plans by a Llanfabon churchwarden were withdrawn after submission to the Incorporated Church Building Society, and that Barker’s amended designs were built at a cost of £1,500. The church was consecrated on 3 June 1889, though not all of the intended work was then carried out.
Newman’s Buildings of Wales: Glamorgan describes a six-bay nave and short lower chancel in Early English style with plate and bar tracery, and an arch-braced roof on stone corbels carved with naturalistic flowers. Coflein dates a west tower to 1904; the Church in Wales record places a fuller campaign of 1908 under E. M. Bruce Vaughan, adding north and south transepts, a south porch, a westward nave extension and the west tower at a cost of £1,200 and raising capacity to 477. The building is not on the Cadw list of listed buildings.
