Overview
The church is the successor to St John the Baptist, Leenside, Nottingham, destroyed by bombing on 8 May 1941. An altar cross salvaged from Leenside was made into a processional cross for Bilborough. Two ex-army wooden huts served as a temporary church from March 1956. The new brick church, designed by Broadhead and Royle, was consecrated on 21 March 1959 at the junction of Graylands Road and Staverton Road.
To fit the site the altar is at the west and the main entrance at the east. The nave is a large rectangle with north and south aisles, free of columns; a Lady Chapel stands behind the altar wall. There is a northeast tower without a bell, a transept, a tall tapered stone tub font, and a square wooden pulpit with nine apostles in stainless steel. Craftsmen who built the church are named on a wooden plaque. Mosaic panels on the south transept wall are now largely hidden by planting.
