Overview
Manchester Archives record that St James’s church was consecrated on 3 May 1888. In 1973 the parish of St Clement, Greenheys, was united with St James as St James with St Clement, Moss Side, with St James becoming the parish church of the united benefice. Parish accounts state that an earlier iron church of 1879 was replaced by a stone church in 1888, which was demolished in 1988 because of deterioration. The building that stands today was completed in the early 1990s.
