# St Helen, Seaview

St Helen’s Church on Eddington Road, between St Helens and Nettlestone on the Isle of Wight, is a Grade II parish church of 1717, rebuilt in 1829, in the Diocese of Portsmouth.

## Overview

The medieval church of St Helena stood on St Helens Duver until the sea claimed it. A new church was built about a mile inland in 1717 and consecrated in 1719. Historic England records a rebuild of 1829 and a chancel of 1862. The present building is cruciform, of stone rubble with brick quoins, with a crenellated west tower compared in the list entry to St Thomas, Ryde. Windows are pointed, with wooden Y-tracery. There are transepts but no aisles.

Wall tablets commemorate Sir Nash Grose (d. 1814) and Edward Grose (d. 1815). The church stands in a large churchyard in the civil parish of Nettlestone and Seaview and remains the parish church of St Helens. It is served with neighbouring churches through the Haven Churches group.
