# St Helen, North Thoresby

St Helen is a Grade II* parish church on Church Lane, North Thoresby, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln, with an Early English west tower and a late Anglo-Saxon grave-cover fragment.

## Overview

Historic England dates the church to the thirteenth, fourteenth and sixteenth centuries, with work of 1732 and a restoration of 1903. Materials are squared limestone rubble and chalk and limestone coursed rubble with slate roofs. The plan comprises a western tower, nave, chancel, north aisle and south porch. The three-stage tower has stepped clasping buttresses, an embattled parapet with eight crocketed pinnacles, a thirteenth-century lancet on the south middle stage and paired pointed belfry lights. The separately roofed north aisle has a late-thirteenth-century west window with Y-tracery, fourteenth-century three-light north windows with mouchettes, and a sixteenth-century embossed terracotta tile above the west window. The chancel south wall retains thirteenth-century lancets and a doorway with brickwork of 1732.

Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer notes an Early English west tower and south arcade, Decorated north-aisle windows, bench ends of 1530–35 with initials and poppyheads, a late Anglo-Saxon interlace slab in a figure-of-eight in the west nave, and stained glass of about 1350–75. The circular tub font is twelfth-century. The church is normally open in daylight hours.
