# St Giles, Balderton

St Giles is a Grade I parish church on Main Street, Balderton, Nottinghamshire, in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

## Overview

Historic England describes a parish church of the twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, restored about 1880 with twentieth-century additions. Fabric is coursed rubble and ashlar under slate roofs with stone-coped gables, kneelers and two ridge crosses. The plan is a tower with crocketed spire of about 1400, nave, north and south aisles with porches, and chancel with north chapel.

The three-stage thirteenth-century tower was encased in ashlar in the 1880s. It has an embattled parapet with pinnacles and a west doorway with colonnettes. Both porches are twelfth-century ashlar work: the north porch doorway has an inner order of beakheads, and the south porch, now enclosed by a twentieth-century extension, has chevron ornament. Interior fittings recorded in the listing include fifteenth-century pews with blind tracery and elaborate poppy heads, a restored twelfth-century chancel arch, and a fifteenth-century Virgin and Child figure. The church remains in regular use.
