Overview
Cadw records a Decorated Gothic church of 1851–53 by Thomas Talbot Bury of London, a former pupil of A. W. N. Pugin, built by Jones and Price of Cardiff at a cost of £1,795 paid by Lady Harriet Clive and the Hon. R. H. Clive and consecrated on 31 July 1853. Fire destroyed the building on 12 January 1856; it was rebuilt at a cost of £5,000, again funded by Harriet Windsor-Clive, Baroness Windsor, of St Fagans Castle. A restoration followed in 1879 and a southwest tower was added in 1909.
The listing describes snecked Duffryn rubble with Bath stone dressings, stepped buttresses, slate roofs and gable parapets. The plan is an aisled four-bay nave, chancel and south porch, with a three-stage crenellated tower. Inside, two-order arcades rest on cylindrical piers; roofs are arched-braced collar trusses on stone corbels. The church stands at the north end of a sloping walled churchyard, with the listed vicarage immediately to the north-east.
