# St David, Newbold on Stour

St David's on Stratford Road, Newbold on Stour, Warwickshire, is a Grade II Gothic Revival parish church of the mid-1830s in the Diocese of Coventry and the Stourdene Benefice.

## Overview

Historic England lists a mid-nineteenth-century church of squared, coursed limestone rubble with ashlar plinth, string course, moulded eaves cornice, buttresses, quoins and coped gables, under tile roofs. The plan is chancel, nave with vestry and north tower, in lancet style. The two-bay chancel has angle buttresses and a three-lancet east window; the five-bay nave has single lancets and a gabled south porch. The two-stage north tower has a pointed east doorway, a clock, a west lancet, a round window and two-light plate-tracery bell openings. Inside, an Early English chancel arch has shafts and a many-moulded arch; the roof is queen-post with cusped struts.

The Stourdene Benefice records that in 1833 the Bishop of Worcester created a separate parish of Newbold-on-Stour with Armscote from Tredington. A church, parsonage and churchyard were built in 1835 and dedicated to St David. The listing cites Buildings of England and the Victoria County History of Worcestershire. The church is usually open from about 9.30am.
