# St Cuthbert, Pateley Bridge

St Cuthbert’s is a Grade II parish church on New Church Street, Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, in the Diocese of Leeds and the parish of Upper Nidderdale.

## Overview

Historic England records a church of 1827 by Woodhead and Hurst, built of ashlar with a slate roof. The plan comprises a three-stage west tower with north and south porches, a four-bay nave and a chancel. The tower has offset angle buttresses, a pointed west door, a clock in a diamond tablet, Y-tracery windows and an embattled parapet with corner pinnacles. Nave and chancel windows are three-light pointed openings with intersecting tracery; the east window is of four lights. The east window glass is signed by F. Comere and J. Capronnier of Brussels, 1893. The church was built as a Commissioners’ church to replace St Mary’s, which was too small and in poor repair; remains of the earlier church survive on Old Church Lane. It was originally a chapel of ease to Ripon Minster.
