# St Cuthbert, Greenhead

St Cuthbert’s is a Grade II Church of England parish church off the B6318 in Greenhead, Northumberland, near Hadrian’s Wall.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of 1826–28 by John Dobson, with a chancel and organ chamber of 1900 by Hicks and Charlewood and an early twentieth-century vestry. The fabric is squared stone with dressings, purple slate roofs and a shingled spire. The plan is an aisleless nave, a west tower with vestry on the north, and a chancel with organ chamber on the north. The nave is Early English; the chancel has Geometrical tracery.

The angle-buttressed three-stage tower has pointed openings, including a south doorway, an embattled parapet with corner pinnacles and a narrow octagonal spire. The four-bay nave has buttressed bay divisions and lancets under a steep roof with coped gable parapets. The three-bay chancel has two-light windows under hoodmoulds and a pointed five-light east window between angle buttresses with gablets. Inside, the listing notes a late octagonal marble font, a 1982 memorial window to Edward Joicey by L. C. Evetts, a nave roof of five arch-braced trusses, a pointed double-chamfered chancel arch, a panelled sanctuary with blind tracery, a carved reredos with the four Evangelists in crocketed niches, and a compartmented barrel roof with foliage bosses.
