# St Cosmas & St Damian, Stretford

The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian stands in a farmyard at Stretford, north-west Herefordshire (not the Greater Manchester town), a Grade I redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

## Overview

Historic England records a former parish church of the twelfth century, extended in the thirteenth, partly rebuilt in the fourteenth and restored in 1875 and 1922, of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings under a machine-tile roof, with a shingled west bell-cote and small broach spire. Two naves and two chancels share one roof, with a fifteenth-century timber south porch. The north nave retains a blocked twelfth-century doorway; the south is thirteenth century. Early fourteenth-century effigies of a knight and his wife lie in a north-wall tomb recess. The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture notes a Romanesque font and that the church was declared redundant on 1 December 1972 and vested in the Redundant Churches Fund (now the Churches Conservation Trust) in 1974. Listed Grade I on 2 September 1966 (NHLE 1349846). The dedication is to the physician-saints Cosmas and Damian. The former parish lies in the Diocese of Hereford, civil parish of Monkland and Stretford.
