# St Columba & St Kentigern, Edlington

The Orthodox Church of Saints Columba and Kentigern on Staveley Street, New Edlington, Doncaster, is an Antiochian Orthodox parish occupying a former Roman Catholic church of 1923.

## Overview

National Churches Trust records that the community was formed in 1994 and first worshipped in the cemetery chapel at Conisbrough. The present building was erected in 1923 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds and later belonged to the Diocese of Hallam, from whom the Orthodox parish purchased it. NCT describes a modern, functional church with stark white walls and a high dome, decorated internally with icons. It is the only Eastern Orthodox church in South Yorkshire.

The parish website places the church in the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of the British Isles and Ireland, under the Patriarchate of Antioch. Divine Liturgy is normally on Sundays at 10am. The building is not on the National Heritage List for England. Architect, materials and a statutory listing have not been verified from listing or architectural sources. Visits can be arranged through the parish.
