# St Clydog, Clodock

The Church of St Clydog (St Clodock) stands beside the River Monnow at Clodock, a Grade I parish church on the Herefordshire–Wales border in the Diocese of Hereford.

## Overview

The village takes its name from St Clydog (Clydawg), a sixth-century king of Ewyas traditionally buried here. Historic England records a twelfth-century nave, thirteenth-century chancel and fifteenth-century west tower of sandstone rubble with a Welsh slate roof, and only minor nineteenth-century restoration. The interior is largely un-Victorianised: a late-twelfth-century chancel arch with scalloped capitals, a thirteenth-century font, a west gallery and staircase of about 1700, seventeenth-century box pews, a three-decker pulpit with sounding board, and a late-seventeenth-century three-sided communion rail. The church was listed Grade I on 26 January 1967 (NHLE 1078150). The parish is Clodock and Longtown, in the Black Mountains Group.
