St Clement of Rome, Fiskerton

St Clement of Rome is a Grade I parish church on High Street, Fiskerton, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, restored in 1863 by Ewan Christian. The fabric is limestone ashlar and coursed limestone rubble, with lead roofs, an ashlar-coped east gable and a battlemented east nave gable. The plan is a west tower, nave with north and south aisles, and a rectangular chancel. The listing describes a possibly eleventh-century round west tower encased in ashlar and raised in the fourteenth century, with clasping buttresses that are each four sides of a hexagon up to the bell stage.

Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer notes that this is Lincolnshire’s only round-tower church, though the original circular form is now hidden by the later ashlar casing. The 1863 restoration renewed aisle windows and rebuilt parts of the chancel and south aisle. The church remains in parish use.
