# St Bartholomew, Wick

St Bartholomew’s is a Grade II* Early English parish church on Church Road, Wick, begun in 1845 to plans by Charles Dyer of Bristol and completed in 1850 by William Butterfield.

## Overview

Historic England records a limestone-freestone church with stone dressings and quoins, slate roofs with raised coped verges, a cross finial to the chancel, and a pyramidal stone-tiled roof to the tower. The plan is west tower, nave, south porch, chancel and north vestry. The listing singles out Butterfield’s four-stage tower: clasping buttresses, a south stair turret, lancets, two-light belfry openings with polygonal mullions and jamb shafts, and a cockerel weathervane. The five-bay nave has tall lancets, some with cusped trefoil heads.

The church stands in the civil parish of Wick and Abson and in the Diocese of Bristol. It remains the parish church for the village beside the River Boyd.
