# St Bartholomew, Great Stukeley

St Bartholomew’s on Church Road, Great Stukeley, is a Grade II* medieval parish church in the former county of Huntingdonshire, now Cambridgeshire, in the Diocese of Ely.

## Overview

Domesday records a church at Stukeley. Historic England describes a parish church with thirteenth-century nave, north and south aisles and chancel, and a fifteenth-century west tower, replacing a twelfth-century church on the site. The five-stage Barnack tower stands on a splayed plinth with clasping buttresses; a sundial is incised in the south-west buttress. The nave is pebble and rubblestone with a fifteenth-century clerestory. The south aisle has fourteenth-century fenestration; the south porch is fifteenth-century, later altered.

The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments recorded Norman fragments found in the walls during restoration, a mid-thirteenth-century north arcade, and a late-fifteenth-century tower built in more than one campaign. The church was thoroughly restored in 1909–10. Listed Grade II* on 28 January 1958 (NHLE 1165400). The parish is The Stukeleys.
