Overview
Historic England lists a parish church dated 1702 in blue bricks on the tower, restored in 1861: brown brick and stone dressings with a slate and lead roof. The plan is a three-bay nave with choir, shallow apsidal chancel and square west tower, in classical style. The tower has an ogee-moulded stone plinth, quoins, round-arched west windows with Venetian tracery, and ball finials. The south entrance is a bolection-moulded oak door in a pedimented porch on Tuscan columns. Inside, two lines of circular columns run the length of the church.
A timber-framed church of 1541 stood on the site. After storm damage in 1667 the tower was rebuilt in 1702 and the rest of the church by 1720. Fires in 1798 and 1804 led to restoration in 1861; Walter Boden restored the church again in 1891. A major roof restoration followed in 2002 after the structure was declared unsafe in 2000.
