# St Barnabas, Ranskill

St Barnabas on the Great North Road in Ranskill, Nottinghamshire, is an unlisted late-Victorian church of 1877–78, built as a chapelry of Blyth and now in the parish of Scrooby.

## Overview

The Southwell and Nottingham Church History Project records a church erected in 1877–78 in Ancaster stone, with nave, porch and a tall bell turret, and a chancel added in 1893. It was formerly part of Blyth parish; Ranskill and Torworth later joined the newly formed parish of Scrooby, in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. The Nottinghamshire Historic Environment Record dates the church to 1878. Published attributions of the design differ (Charles Baily of Newark in the diocesan survey; Ewan Christian in Pevsner), so no architect is given here.

The church is not on the National Heritage List for England. A church room of 1919 remains the village’s principal community hall. The building was reordered in 2009 as a flexible worship space with level access.
