# St Andrew, Willoughton

St Andrew’s is a Grade II parish church on Church Lane in Willoughton, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the late thirteenth century, fifteenth century, 1794 and late nineteenth century, in coursed limestone rubble and limestone ashlar with slate roofs, decorative red ridge tiles and stone coped gables. The plan is a west tower, nave, and rectangular chancel with north vestry. The two-stage eighteenth-century tower has a pointed doorway, a plaque naming W. Bassett as vicar, a large oculus and narrow round-headed bell-stage lights. Nave and chancel have broad round-headed windows; the east window is a late nineteenth-century four-light pointed opening. A blocked fifteenth-century two-light window remains in the south chancel wall.

The late thirteenth-century chancel arch has polygonal responds and a triple-chamfered pointed head. Pevsner, cited by Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer, notes that the medieval fabric is essentially the chancel arch and that blocked Perpendicular window, the rest being of 1794, later Victorianised. The West Lindsey Churches Festival account states that a new west tower and nave were added to the thirteenth-century chancel in 1794, with a west gallery and box pews removed in an 1888 restoration. Fittings include a seventeenth-century altar rail, a fragmentary ashlar monument to Nicholas Sutton (died 1602), and a large metal vamping horn above the west door.
