# St Andrew, Wellingham

St Andrew’s is a Grade II* Church of England parish church on Church Road, Wellingham, Norfolk, in the Diocese of Norwich and the Launditch and Upper Nar Group Benefice: a small aisleless church whose outstanding treasure is a painted screen dated 1532.

## Overview

Historic England lists a medieval and later parish church of flint with ashlar dressings and brick quoins to an encased west tower, with plaintile and pantile roofs. The plan is west tower, aisleless nave and chancel. The listing notes a reset two-light late Perpendicular west window, Perpendicular south nave windows with embattled transoms, and a chancel with lancets, Y-tracery and a restored three-light east window in late thirteenth-century cusped lancet style. There is no chancel arch. The dado of the screen, dated 1532 by inscription, retains six panels with contemporary paintings, notably St George slaying the dragon. The font is a plain octagon.

The benefice history records a first known rector in 1304. Norfolk Heritage Explorer describes a thirteenth- to fifteenth-century church much altered in the nineteenth century, with large chancel lancets and Perpendicular south nave windows set in blank arcading. The church is open dawn to dusk.
