# St Andrew, Twyford

St Andrew’s is a Grade I Church of England parish church at Twyford, Derbyshire, with a twelfth-century chancel arch, a fourteenth-century tower and an early-eighteenth-century brick nave, in the Diocese of Derby.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of the twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth and early eighteenth centuries: coursed squared sandstone and red brick with sandstone dressings and lead roofs — west tower, nave and chancel. The three-stage tower has a short octagonal stone spire. The nave was rebuilt in the eighteenth century using medieval masonry inside and brick outside, with round-arched windows. The chancel arch is twelfth-century, round-arched with zigzag ornament. The tower was repaired in 1821 after lightning; a fire on 27 November 1910 destroyed the organ and many pews, leading to restoration in 1910–11. Memorials include George Harpur (d.1658) and Anna Harpur (d.1688). The church is in the joint parish of Barrow-on-Trent with Twyford. Listed Grade I on 19 January 1967 (NHLE 1039117); listing NGR SK3274428552.
