# St Andrew, Stainton le Vale

St Andrew’s is a Grade II parish church on Manor Lane, Stainton le Vale, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln and the Walesby group of churches.

## Overview

Historic England lists a parish church of about 1300, restored in 1886 and about 1914 after falling into ruin in the seventeenth century. The fabric is ironstone rubble with ashlar dressings, some brick with rendering, and slate roofs. The plan is a squat west tower including a west porch, nave and chancel in one, and a north vestry of 1914. The tower has a triple-chamfered pointed arch and polygonal jambs; the porch has stone benches and a triple-chamfered doorway.

The east end was rebuilt about 1914 with a large pointed traceried window. Embedded in the east wall are a polygonal pier and the remnant of a columnar arcade pier. A Domesday settlement of “Staintone” is recorded. Wikipedia notes a painting of the Agony in the Garden by Charles Edgar Buckeridge, originally in St Margaret’s, Burton upon Trent. The village lies in the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB.
