# St Andrew, Ravelston

St Andrew’s is a Category C listed Roman Catholic church at 77 Belford Road, Ravelston, Edinburgh, in the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh.

## Overview

The Historic Environment Scotland list description records a seven-bay rectangular-plan Arts and Crafts timber-framed church of 1901–02. The Archdiocese bought Edgehill House and its garden so that a west-end mission could be founded; the first Mass was celebrated in the house dining room on St Andrew’s Day, 30 November 1901. The wooden church was built within six months at a cost of £850 and blessed on 27 April 1902. It was intended as a temporary building while funds were raised for stone, but it has remained in permanent use.

The listing notes half-timbering, hanging eaves, plain bargeboards, a red clay roof, a prominent gabled south elevation, clad buttresses and a long belcote to the west. Scotland’s Churches Trust records a west-window stained-glass panel of 1960 by Felix McCulloch and a seventeenth-century German polychromed Madonna and Child.
