# St Andrew, Minting

St Andrew's is a Grade II* parish church on Church Lane, Minting, Lincolnshire, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Historic England records a parish church of about 1200 with fifteenth-century work, restored in 1863 by Ewan Christian. The fabric is greenstone squared rubble with ashlar dressings and some brick raising, under green slate roofs with stone-coped gables, crosses fleury and decorative tiled ridges. The plan is nave with western bellcote, north aisle, chancel, south porch and vestry. A large central buttress at the west end supports an ashlar octagonal bellcote with four shouldered openings, a nailhead cornice and a short steeple. Nave and aisle were rebuilt externally in 1863; the chancel retains medieval fabric, including a fifteenth-century east window of three cusped lights with panel tracery and human-head labels, and some brick patching on the north side.

The three-bay north arcade of about 1200 has double-chamfered just-pointed arches; the piers were rebuilt in the nineteenth century. Roofs and fittings are nineteenth-century, though the chancel screen, reconstructed then, contains some fifteenth-century panels. Built into the east wall of the nave, either side of the chancel arch, are two fragments of an elaborately carved cross of about 1200, one depicting the Crucifixion with nailhead decoration. Below the northern panel is the cut-down bowl of an early octagonal font. Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer notes that the church retains a good Early English north arcade, and that Minting was the site of a Benedictine priory.
