# St Andrew, Harberton

St Andrew’s is a Grade I parish church on Church Square, Harberton, Devon, in the Diocese of Exeter.

## Overview

Historic England records a fourteenth-century chancel, nave and north and south aisles of about 1436, and a west tower and south porch of the later fifteenth or early sixteenth century, restored in 1861, 1871–72 and 1885–86. The fabric is local slate rubble with red sandstone dressings, Beerstone (much replaced in Bathstone in the nineteenth century), and slate roofs. A church or oratory existed in the twelfth century, attested by the font. The living belonged to the canons of Old Sarum, then from 1245 to the canons of St Peter’s, Exeter. In 1436 Bishop Lacy granted an indulgence to rebuild the church.

The listing describes a tall, slightly tapered three-stage west tower and a fourteenth-century chancel with a carved stone wall-plate and a double-ogee priest’s door. The parish history notes a medieval barrel roof with carved bosses, including a Green Man, and an eleventh-century font.
