# St Andrew, Ferring

St Andrew’s is a Grade I parish church on Church Lane, Ferring, West Sussex, in the Diocese of Chichester: a small village church whose flint chancel is thirteenth-century and whose nave was rebuilt in the seventeenth century.

## Overview

Historic England lists chancel, nave with north aisle, western bell-turret and north porch. The chancel is faced with flints, the nave roughcast, the bell-turret tile-hung. The listing dates the church to the thirteenth century with Perpendicular windows, and states that the nave was added in the seventeenth century when the church of the adjoining parish of Kingston was submerged by the sea. Listing NGR is TQ 09430 02585.

Secondary accounts note Norman fabric remaining in the chancel and a church on the site long before the present building: National Churches Trust summarises a first church between 765 and 791 and a rebuilding from about 1120, enlarged about 1250. Those earlier dates are parish tradition rather than the list-entry fabric analysis. The church stands on a slight rise among historic cottages in South Ferring and is open daily.
