# St Andrew, Apley

St Andrew at Apley, West Lindsey, is a small red-brick Church of England chapel of 1871 in a churchyard that also holds the earthwork site of the medieval parish church, in the Diocese of Lincoln.

## Overview

Lincolnshire Heritage Explorer records a mortuary chapel of 1871, built when the churchyard of the former medieval Church of St Andrew was enlarged. It is red brick with stone quoins to the north and yellow brick quoins to the south, and cost £284. The medieval church is documented from the early thirteenth century; by 1816 it had been down for many years and a brick shed served for burial services. Institutions to the living were last recorded separately in 1818; the perpetual curacies of Stainfield and Apley were formally united in 1910. The mound of the medieval church, with late-eighteenth- and nineteenth-century gravestones, lies in the scheduled medieval settlement of Apley (NHLE 1016981). The 1871 chapel itself is not a listed building.
