# St Agnes & St Pancras, Toxteth Park

St Agnes and St Pancras is a Grade I parish church on Buckingham Avenue / Ullet Road, Toxteth Park, Liverpool, in the Diocese of Liverpool.

## Overview

Historic England lists a church of 1883–85 by J. L. Pearson: brick with stone dressings and a tile roof. The plan is a nave with lean-to aisles, east and west transepts, a short chancel with canted end and ambulatory flanked by turrets, and a south chapel. Aisles have two-light plate-tracery windows between gabled buttresses; the west end has a gallery with an arcaded balustrade. The stone interior has a four-bay nave on round piers, corbelled wall shafts, a gallery and a quadripartite vault. The north-west transept is a baptistry with a marble font; the listing quotes Pevsner’s “The noblest Victorian church in Liverpool.” Listing NGR: SJ3758988493.

Wikipedia and the parish record that H. Douglas Horsfall and his mother paid about £28,000 as a memorial to Robert Horsfall. The church was consecrated in 1885. The National Churches Trust notes a Caen-stone interior evoking Amiens and Reims, Kempe glass, a west window by A. G. Moore, a reredos by Nathaniel Hitch and a Lady Chapel screen by Bodley.
