Overview
The Dictionary of Irish Architects records a church by Samuel Patrick Close: the foundation stone was laid on 29 June 1895; the chancel, transepts and one bay were consecrated on 13 June 1896 (builder Courtney Brothers); two further bays were added and consecrated on 23 June 1900. Richard Mills Close completed the nave, tower and west front, consecrated on 21 May 1932. The church was partially destroyed by fire in 1934 and restored; a memorial reredos, stalls and chancel panelling followed in 1937.
The Northern Ireland Buildings Database (HB26/13/058) describes a freestanding double-height sandstone Gothic Revival parish church, cruciform, with a four-bay clerestoried nave, transepts, lean-to aisles and a truncated square three-stage tower to the north-west. Walling is rock-faced buff sandstone laid in block-and-sneck, with staged buttresses and pointed-arched windows in groups of three.
