Overview
Historic England records a church of 1844 by Lewis Vulliamy, with eastern parts added in 1903 by Sir Arthur Blomfield. The fabric is gault brick with flint flushwork under a low-pitch slate roof, in Decorated Perpendicular Gothic. The plan is a four-bay nave, aisled chancel with clerestory to the chancel only, and a three-stage western tower with parapet, pinnacles and a spire with flying buttresses. The interior is understood to contain a twelfth-century Purbeck marble font and an early-eighteenth-century pulpit.
Wikipedia states that Robert Boothby Heathcote, rector of All Saints, Chingford, paid some five thousand pounds of his own money because of the poor condition of the old church. Historic England's Heritage at Risk entry notes that the Lady Chapel was extended and re-ordered in 1936 by N. F. Cachemaille-Day, and that construction is cream-coloured brick with decorative flint flushwork dressed in Bath stone. The parish of Chingford worships in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.
