Overview
Historic England lists Rook How Friends’ Meeting House and Cottage (NHLE 1225464, listed 25 March 1970). The list records a meeting house and house dated 1725 on the door latch and spice-cupboard door, in roughcast stone with a slate roof: five bays, the third a two-storey gabled porch, the first two bays single-storey. Windows are mostly chamfered wooden mullions with leaded glazing. The porch stair led to a former gallery (later partitioned as a bedroom). The meeting house retains a dais bench and wall supports; the house has plank-and-muntin partitions, a dog-leg stair and dated spice cupboard. The listing calls it a well-preserved meeting house with house attached. It was built for scattered Friends in the Furness and Cartmel area. A former stable to the north-east is listed separately at Grade II. Recent conservation has included roof and window repairs and a limecrete floor with underfloor heating.
