# Stones Methodist Church, Ripponden

Stones Methodist Church on Rochdale Road, Ripponden, West Yorkshire, is a 1902 Wesleyan chapel by John Wills, replacing an 1804 chapel on the same hillside site above the valley.

## Overview

There has been a Methodist church here since 1804. The present building was erected in 1902 to designs by the Wesleyan architect John Wills, after the earlier chapel had become inadequate and dilapidated. Major modifications from 1995 and a refurbishment of about 2004–05 created rooms for Sunday school, crèche and community use. A further project in 2024, with architects Storah Architecture, renewed the roof, added solar panels and a new heating system, and repaired weather damage on the exposed west elevation. The building is not on the National Heritage List for England. It is in the Calderdale Methodist Circuit (Yorkshire West District) and remains in regular worship, with a large weekly community programme.
